and yet another senseless tale of entitlement, or perhaps a lack of self confidence/worth… or too much self-worth placed in achievements… my heart is grieved. a professor at UCLA was shot and killed yesterday in a murder suicide by a grad student who was apparently “despondent” over grades. what kind of society have we come to, that people feel such a strong sense of identity tied with grades to the point of death… and to take down the grade-giver along with themselves on the way out.
edit: oh ok, more news has come out and thankfully it wasn’t just grades (not that the situation is much improved, but at least the motive wasn’t that petty). it was about some code he feels the professor stole, though then why the other two on his hit list, i have no idea.
